What is Pilates?
Pilates is a body conditioning method that works in a different way to other fitness techniques. By targeting the deep postural muscle it builds strength from the inside out, re-balancing the body and bringing it back into the correct alignment.
The movements achieve a balance between strength and flexibility aiming to make the body's movement efficient, less stressed and have the correct ‘tension’.
What can Pilates do for me?
Pilates is ideal for those just beginning to think about exercise, for those who spend to much time in repetitive movements due to their jobs (such as desk work), for those who feel a little ‘oiling’ is required to keep up with the things that are really important, or trying to rehabilitate after an injury, and also for those athletes wishing to enhance their performance.
Modern Pilates is based on Joseph Pilates’ original programme but with up to date data it allows this effective, controlled, sensible movement to become more functional and relevant for today’s bodies.
The plan is for the Pilates method to allow you to perhaps understand and appreciate how your own body moves and to create good movement patterns. This common sense approach takes time and practice.
